ComplyWorks alternative for property managers and mid-sized teams

6 min read · Last reviewed October 6, 2026

People searching for a ComplyWorks alternative are usually Canadian property managers, condo corporations or smaller contractors whose main job is keeping vendor insurance, workers' comp clearances and licences current, and who want a published price and no fees for their vendors. ComplyWorks is a broad compliance platform built for multi-site, regulated operations, and it is now offered by Veriforce Canada. If your needs are narrower, a lighter credential tracking tool may fit better; if they are broad, ComplyWorks may be the right choice.

Who owns ComplyWorks now

ComplyWorks was founded in 2004 and based in Calgary. Veriforce, a contractor compliance company, acquired it in August 2020. In late 2024, Veriforce announced it had been acquired by Apax Partners, which also owns Alcumus, and the two businesses came together under the Veriforce name. As of October 2026, complyworks.com redirects to Veriforce Canada, which lists ComplyWorks as one of its products alongside SafeContractor (formerly Cognibox), SafeLearning and SafeEmployee.

In practice, that means a ComplyWorks evaluation today is also an evaluation of Veriforce Canada's wider product family.

What ComplyWorks does well

As of October 2026, Veriforce Canada describes ComplyWorks as a product for managing contractor, workforce and worksite compliance across teams, locations and business units. Its published features include:

  • Site and project level requirements, so compliance can be managed where the work happens, not only at the company level.
  • Configurable workflows and advanced reporting.
  • Orientations, onboarding content and training distribution, with tracking of who received and acknowledged what.
  • Contractor evaluation, plus incident, near miss and corrective action tracking.
  • Contractor hours tracking and structured compliance exemptions for urgent work.
  • Document storage with expiry alerts, single sign-on, availability in more than 25 languages and 24/7 operational support.

Veriforce Canada names oil and gas, property management and municipal operations as typical sectors. For an organization coordinating many sites, a large workforce and formal safety programs, that breadth and the dedicated operational support behind it are real strengths.

Why some organizations look for a ComplyWorks alternative

The reasons are usually about fit, not quality. Common situations include:

  • The need is narrower than the product. A property manager may only need current certificates of insurance, WSIB clearances, licences and a few certifications, not hours tracking, incident management or worker orientations.
  • Who pays matters to your vendors. ComplyWorks has historically charged suppliers an annual membership tiered by company size, as described in a hiring client's supplier package hosted on the ComplyWorks platform. Current contractor fees are not published on Veriforce Canada's site. Small local trades sometimes hesitate to pay to serve one more building.
  • Pricing is not published. As of October 2026, the ComplyWorks product pages invite you to request a demo rather than listing prices.
  • Ownership changes prompt a review. When a product moves into a larger group, some teams use the moment to reassess what they actually need.

Vendorpass focuses on credentials. You set requirements per vendor or trade (liability insurance with a minimum limit, workers' comp clearance, licence, certification), send automated requests, and get email reminders 30, 14 and 7 days before a document expires and on the day it does. It flags mismatches such as $2M on file when you require $5M, and keeps an audit history. Vendors keep one Business Record and share it through a Business Passport link. Plan details are on the pricing page.

When ComplyWorks is still the better choice

ComplyWorks, or another Veriforce Canada product, is likely the better fit if:

  • You need worker-level compliance, site orientations, training sign-offs or contractor hours tracking. Vendorpass tracks employee certifications on the provider side but does not run orientations or hours.
  • You track incidents and corrective actions alongside contractor records.
  • You need single sign-on, multilingual access for a distributed workforce, or integrations with other enterprise systems. Vendorpass does not offer integrations.
  • You need health and safety program review or on-site audits. Vendorpass does not offer either.
  • Your contractors already hold memberships in the Veriforce Canada network for other clients.

Vendorpass is also a newer product. If a long track record at enterprise scale matters to your board or procurement team, weigh that honestly.

How to evaluate a switch

  1. List what you actually use. If most of your activity is collecting insurance, clearances and licences, note that. Our contractor compliance checklist can help.
  2. Export your current vendor list with contacts, trades and the expiry dates of documents on file.
  3. Set requirements by vendor or trade, including minimum insurance limits.
  4. Send requests to a sample group, such as vendors renewing in the next quarter.
  5. Run both systems in parallel for one renewal cycle and compare gaps caught and staff time.
  6. Tell vendors what changes for them, including whether they still need memberships for other clients.

Every Vendorpass account starts free, and the free plan covers up to 3 vendors, enough to run that test first.
