Organizations that look for an ISNetworld alternative are usually not running the large industrial programs ISN was built for. They are often Canadian property managers, condo corporations, hotels or general contractors who mainly need current insurance certificates, workers' comp clearances and licences, and who would rather not ask small local vendors to buy a subscription. For that situation a lighter credential tracking tool can fit better, while ISN remains a strong option for capital-intensive, high-risk operations.
What ISNetworld does well
ISN, the company behind ISNetworld, was founded in 2001 and is headquartered in Dallas, Texas. As of October 2026, its website lists about 900 hiring clients, 90,000 active contractor and supplier subscribers, and customers in more than 85 countries. It has Canadian offices in Calgary, Toronto and Montréal.
- Broad information review. ISN collects and reviews health, safety, quality, insurance, training, cybersecurity and sustainability information for contractors and suppliers.
- Review and Verification Services (RAVS). Documents submitted in ISNetworld are reviewed by ISN's RAVS team against regulatory and hiring client requirements.
- Submit once, share with many. Contractors can submit their information once and connect with multiple hiring clients.
- Worker level training through ISN's Empower platform.
- Analytics and benchmarking, plus import of third party data and export to internal systems.
- Implementation support from dedicated account managers, and contractor support in more than 35 languages.
For energy, industrial and other high-risk sectors, where reviewing a contractor's safety program is part of the job, that depth and network size are real advantages.
Why some organizations look for an ISNetworld alternative
Most reasons come down to scope and cost model rather than quality:
- Both sides subscribe. Per ISN's FAQs, hiring clients pay an annual subscription fee per global region, and contractors and suppliers pay an annual subscription fee plus a one-time setup fee per country, based on the number of employees. A small painting or cleaning company may not want a new subscription to bid on one building.
- You need less than a full prequalification program. If your main question is whether the vendor's CGL limit, additional insured wording and WSIB clearance are current, safety program review may be more than you need.
- Local vendor base. Many property and facility teams work with small local trades that have never used a prequalification network and are not active on one for other clients.
- Budget and approval. Smaller teams often prefer a published price they can approve themselves rather than a sales-led process.

| Item | ISNetworld | Vendorpass |

| On-site audits / HSE review | HSE document review by ISN's RAVS team | Not offered |
Vendorpass is narrower by design. You set credential requirements per vendor or trade, send automated requests and invite links, and receive email reminders 30, 14 and 7 days before expiry and on the expiry date. It compares what is on file with what you require (for example, $2M on file when you require $5M), supports multiple properties, and keeps an audit history. Vendors keep one Business Record, including employee certifications such as Working at Heights, and share it through a Business Passport link. See pricing for plan details.
When ISNetworld is still the better choice
A lighter tool is not the right answer for every organization. ISN, or another enterprise platform, is likely the better fit if:
- You need trained reviewers to evaluate contractors' health, safety and environmental programs. Vendorpass does not review HSE documents or conduct site audits.
- You manage thousands of contractors in high-risk work and need benchmarking across a large industry network.
- You operate in several countries and want one platform for all of them.
- You need financial risk information, cybersecurity questionnaires, or data integration with internal systems. Vendorpass does not provide these.
- Most of your contractors already subscribe to ISNetworld for other clients, so adding you costs them little.
Vendorpass is also new. If a long enterprise track record is a requirement, give that weight.
How to evaluate an ISNetworld alternative
- Separate must-haves from extras. List the documents you require by trade, and mark which ones need expert review. The contractor compliance checklist can help.
- Export your vendor list with contacts and current expiry dates for insurance and clearances.
- Set requirements in the new tool, including minimum insurance limits. Keep additional insured wording in your contracts and check it on the certificate.
- Request documents from a sample group, such as vendors with renewals in the next quarter.
- Run both systems in parallel for one renewal cycle and compare gaps found, response times and staff effort.
- Check contract and subscription dates so you do not leave a gap or pay twice longer than needed, and tell vendors what changes for them.
Every Vendorpass account starts free, with up to 3 vendors on the free plan, so a small trial costs nothing.
